This chicken curry is prepared by marinating chicken with spicy masala and curd mix.This goes great with roti or rice.

Peshwari Chicken


  1. Chicken – 1kg
  2. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  3. Red chilly powder-1 tbsp
  4. Coriander powder-1 tsp
  5. Pepper powder- 1 tsp
  6. Cumin seeds(jeerakam) –1/2 tsp
  7. Fennel Seeds(perum jeerakam) –1/4 tsp
  8. Fenugreek seeds(uluva) – 1/4 tsp
  9. Cardamom –3
  10. Cloves-3
  11. Cinnamon stick– 2 “ piece
  12. Onion(finely chopped) –2
  13. Ginger- 2 1/2 “ piece
  14. Green chilly – 2
  15. Curd – 3/4 cup
  16. Lime juice-2 tsp
  17. Onion(for frying,small) -1
  18. Salt
  19. Ghee – 1/4 cup

  1. Clean and cut chicken into medium size pieces.
  2. For marinating chicken, make a fine paste by grinding ingredients numbered 2 to 11 with little water.
  3. Grind ginger,green chilly,onion into a coarse paste.
  4. Transfer both the paste into a bowl. add curd,lime juice,salt,ghee to it and mix well.
  5. Marinate chicken with this mix and keep aside for 2 hours in refrigerator.
  6. Heat a pan and cook chicken on medium flame.While cooking, chicken will release its own juice and once it is cooked well there will be gravy.So no need to add extra water.
  7. Heat ghee(1tbsp) in a pan and fry onion till  brown.
  8. Garnish with fried onions.
  9. Serve with rice or roti.
