Masala kadala is a popular snack of south India. You can have this crunchy and crispy snack with evening tea or while watching TV:)
Ingredients
- Raw peanuts – 2 cups
- Chick pea flour(besan) – 3tbsp
- Red chilly powder – 1tbsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds(lightly crushed) – 1tsp
- Asafoetida powder – 1 pinch
- Garlic (cut lengthwise) – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves
- Salt
- Water – 5 tbsp
- Oil for frying
Preparation
- In a bowl, put the peanuts. Mix besan with red chilly powder,turmeric powder,chopped garlic,cumin seeds and salt.
- Add water to it and mix to get a thick paste.
- Pour this over the peanuts and mix well until the peanuts are thoroughly coated.
- Heat oil in a pan .Fry the peanuts in batches for about 2-3 minutes on medium heat until light brown. stir slowly so that peanuts doesn’t get stick to each other.
- Drain on kitchen paper.In the same oil,fry curry leaves till brown and add it to the peanut mix.Once it is cool it will be crispy.
- Store in air tight jar for up to 2-3 weeks.
- Serve as tea time snack.

Chaats are a variety of particularly common snacks which are popular in India. There are different varieties of chats and most common are aloo chaat,chana chaat,chicken chaat.This chaat is a mix of sweet,hot and sour flavors and it tastes great if you make chat the day before you serve it.
Ingredients
- Chick peas – 1 cup
- Onion(finely chopped) –1
- Tomato(deseeded and the flesh diced) –1
- Green Chilly(chopped) –1
- Kashmiri chilly powder – 1 tsp
- Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp
- Chat Masala – 1tsp
- Tamarind Paste – 1tbsp
- Ketch up – 1tbsp
- Salt –1 tsp
- Coriander leaves – 1tbsp
Preparation
- Boil chick peas with little salt and turmeric powder.soak a gooseberry sized piece of tamarind in 1/4 cup of hot water for 30 minutes.Squeeze out the pulp and discard solids and seeds.
- In a bowl, mix all the above ingredients well . Serve.

Pakoda or Pakora is a common starter snack in most Indian party menu. It is nice to have a crispy pakoda with hot tea when it rains outside.:) You can make pakoda with variety of ingredients such as Potato,Spinach, Cauliflower or may be using non-veg either Chicken or prawn..I am sure you will really enjoy this crunchy crispy pakoda.
Ingredients
- Onion – 3
- Besan(gram flour)- 1 cup
- Ginger- garlic paste – 1/2 tsp
- Green Chilly – 3
- Red Chilly Powder – 1tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Curry Leaves(chopped) – 1tsp
- Lime juice – 1 1/2 tsp
- Baking Powder –1/4 tsp
- Ghee – 2 tsp
- Oil
Preparation
- In a bowl, Mix besan with baking powder,red chilly powder,coriander powder,salt and ghee(just warm ghee before adding to the flour mix).
- Then Add lime juice,ginger-garlic paste,green chilly(chopped),curry leaves and finally add chopped onions. Mix well using hand.
- Heat Oil in a frying pan. Once oil is piping hot,take small amount of mix and drop it into oil.
- Fry pakodas till golden in color and crispy.
- Serve with ketchup or chutney
