Pazham Nirachathu/Stuffed Bananas

Pazham Nirachathu is a popular snack in Malabar cuisine of Kerala and it is usually served during Iftar Parties.It is prepared by filling bananas with grated coconut sugar,cashews and nuts and then coated with Maida batter and light fry till brown.This is a healthy and yummy snack for kids.

Ingredients

  1. Bananas(Ripe) – 2
  2. Grated Coconut – 1/4 cup
  3. Cashews – 4
  4. Raisins – 6
  5. Sugar – 4 tbsp
  6. Cardamom Powder/elakka – 1 tsp
  7. Maida – 6 tbsp
  8. Water
  9. Ghee
  10. Oil

Preparation

  1. Heat ghee in a pan.Fry cashews and raisins till light brown.Keep aside.
  2. In another pan,add ghee and fry grated coconut and sugar till coconut becomes light brown in color.
  3. Add the fried cashews,cardamom powder and raisins to it and mix well.Filling is ready.Let it cool.
  4. Peel off the banana skin.Make slit lengthwise without cutting the ends and remove the black seeds carefully .Place the filling into the slit using hand.
  5. Make a thick paste of maida,salt  and water.Seal the slit using the paste.
  6. Heat little oil in a heavy bottomed pan. Carefully place the banana and fry till all sides are golden brown.
  7. Cut into 3 pieces and serve as tea time snack.
