Crispy Cardamom Apple Fritters
A family recipe since September 2008
Light, crisp fritters flavored with warm cardamom make a delightful breakfast or a sweet treat—ready in minutes and perfect with a cup of tea.
20 min total2 servings
Ingredients
- Apple - 2 whole
- Egg - 1 whole
- Maida (all-purpose flour) - 1 cup
- Sugar - 2 tbsp
- Milk - 1/3 cup
- Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp
- Salt, to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- 1Wash the apples, remove the cores, and slice them lengthwise into even wedges so they cook uniformly.
- 2In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg, maida, sugar, milk, cardamom powder and salt to taste until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
- 3Pour enough oil into a deep pan for shallow deep-frying and heat it over medium heat until it is hot and shimmering.
- 4Dip each apple slice into the batter, letting any excess drip off, then carefully lower the slice into the hot oil.
- 5Fry the apple slices in batches, turning occasionally, until they are crisp and golden on both sides.
- 6Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels for a minute so they lose excess oil; serve warm.
- 7Optional: dust with powdered sugar or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent finish.
