Black Grape and Banana Cooler
A family recipe since August 2011
A refreshing summer drink that blends sweet black grapes and ripe banana into a silky chilled cooler. Naturally sweetened and kid-friendly, this fiber-rich drink is easy to make.
60 min total4 servings
Ingredients
- Black grapes - 500 g
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Banana - 1 whole
- Water - 4 cup
- Vanilla ice cream - 1/4 cup
Instructions
- 1Wash the grapes thoroughly; optionally soak them in salt water for some time to reduce pesticide residue, then rinse in cold water and drain.
- 2Place the grapes, sugar and 4 cups of water in a pan, bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes, mashing the grapes occasionally with the back of a spoon as they soften.
- 3Remove the pan from the heat, mash the grapes further with the back of a spoon until broken down, and let the mixture cool.
- 4Strain the cooled mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to extract the grape juice, pressing on the solids to release as much liquid as possible.
- 5Reserve half the grape juice; place the banana and half the grape juice in a blender and blend until smooth.
- 6Add 3 tbsp of the vanilla ice cream to the blender and blend again until incorporated, then transfer the blended mixture to a bowl.
- 7Stir in the remaining grape juice, taste and adjust sweetness if needed, then refrigerate for some time to chill.
- 8Pour the chilled drink into glasses, top each with a spoonful of the remaining vanilla ice cream, and serve chilled.
- 9Optional: Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint before serving.

Hi, Superb recipe for kids! Had once used condensed milk and that also worked out fine. This is excellent for kids in the age group of 2-4 years, esp. for those who like such semi solid and semi liquid stuff and don't want to chew anything, even fruits :) tc;)
