Ingredients
- White bread - 5 slice
- Milk - 4 tbsp
- Milk powder - 2 tbsp
- Sugar - 2 cup
- Water - 2 cup
- Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
- Oil
- Almonds
Instructions
- 1Remove the crusts from the bread slices, tear them into pieces and pulse in a blender or food processor until you have fine breadcrumbs.
- 2Transfer the breadcrumbs to a bowl, add the milk powder, then add the milk little by little while kneading until a soft, pliable dough forms.
- 3Cover the dough and keep aside for 10 minutes to relax.
- 4Make the sugar syrup by combining the sugar and water in a saucepan and bringing it to a boil; once the sugar melts, continue boiling on medium flame for another 5 minutes until the syrup is slightly sticky and not watery.
- 5Switch off the heat and stir the cardamom powder into the syrup.
- 6Portion the dough into even pieces, flatten each piece, place an almond in the center and seal the edges, then gently roll each portion into a smooth ball without any cracks.
- 7Heat oil in a frying pan, gently slide the balls into the hot oil and fry on medium flame until they turn a golden color, turning them so they brown evenly; remove with a slotted spoon when done.
- 8Drain the fried balls briefly on kitchen paper to remove excess oil.
- 9Make sure the sugar syrup is warm, then add the fried balls into the syrup so they are submerged and can absorb the syrup evenly.
- 10Soak the jamuns in the sugar syrup for 2 hours so they become fully infused and soft.
- 11Refrigerate before serving to chill, if desired; optionally garnish with chopped almonds for a bit of crunch.
