Gobi Mutter (Cauliflower and Green Peas Curry)
A family recipe since October 2009
A bright, homely North Indian curry where tender cauliflower meets sweet green peas in a lightly spiced tomato gravy — simple to make and perfect with roti or paratha.
Ingredients
- Cauliflower - 2 cup
- Green peas - 1/2 cup
- Onion - 2 whole
- Tomato puree - 1/2 cup
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Red chili powder - 1 tsp
- Sugar - 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves
- Oil - 3 tbsp
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- 1Cut the cauliflower into florets and roughly chop the onions so they are ready to cook.
- 2Boil the green peas until tender, drain, and set them aside while you finish the rest of the dish.
- 3Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat, add the ginger-garlic paste and chopped onions, and sauté until the onions are soft and fragrant.
- 4Stir in the tomato puree, red chili powder, turmeric powder, sugar, and salt, and cook for a few moments until the raw tomato smell has faded.
- 5Add the cauliflower florets and a little water, cover the pan, and cook until the florets are soft and tender.
- 6Add the boiled green peas, stir to combine, and allow it to boil on low flame for 2-3 minutes so the flavors come together.
- 7Turn off the heat, garnish with curry leaves, and serve hot with roti or paratha.
