Today when I opened my refrigerator, all I could find was some capsicum and realized that it’s time again to refill it with fresh vegetables. Since I had to prepare something for the dinner and it was too late to go to market, I started thinking what I could make just using capsicum. Suddenly, I realized that I had bought some ready made paneer cubes couple of weeks ago which could be an excellent add-on to make a rich kadai paneer. Kadai Paneer is a typical Punjabi dish and it is normally prepared in a kadai. Adding capsicum and kasoori methi powder gives it a rich aroma and serves as a great combo with any type of Indian breads.

Kadai Paneer


  1. Paneer (cut into cubes) – 250gms
  2. Onion(chopped) –2
  3. Tomato (chopped) – 2
  4. Ginger-garlic Paste – 2 tsp
  5. Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
  6. Capsicum(bell Pepper) – 2
  7. Kashmiri Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
  8. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  9. Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  10. Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
  11. Kasoori methi powder – 1tbsp
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Oil
  14. Coriander leaves – to garnish


  1. Heat oil in a kadai. Add cumin and once it starts spluttering add ginger garlic paste and saute.
  2. Then add chopped onions and fry till light brown.Add turmeric powder,red chilly powder,coriander powder and saute well.
  3. Add chopped tomato and chopped capsicum and cover and cook for 2 minutes.once it start to separate from oil add paneer cubes, kasoori methi powder,garam masala powder,salt to it and mix.
  4. Add 1/4 cup of  water to it and cook till gravy is thick.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  6. serve with roti or Naan.

mutter paneer


  1. Green Peas(Matar) – 1 cup
  2. Paneer (cottage cheese)cut into cubes – 250 gms
  3. Onion (medium,chopped) – 2
  4. Tomato (medium) – 2
  5. Ginger-Garlic paste – 2 tbsp
  6. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  7. Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
  8. Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
  9. Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp
  10. Green chilly (chopped) – 2
  11. kasoori methi powder – 1/2 tsp
  12. Salt – to taste
  13. Coriander leaves – a few
  14. Oil

How to make:

  1. Cut Paneer into cubes and fry until golden brown in color..
  2. Boil green peas and keep aside.
  3. Make a fine paste of onions,tomatoes and green chilly.
  4. Heat oil in a kadai.Fry cloves, bayleaves for few secs. Add the onion paste,ginger –garlic paste to it and fry on medium heat until oil separates from the mixture.
  5. Then add turmeric powder,chilly powder,coriander powder, kasoori methi powder,garam masala ,salt and mix well.
  6. Add green peas, paneer to it and boil for 4-5 mins with enough water to make thick gravy.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.

butter paneer masala

  1. Paneer-1 cup
  2. Big Onion-2
  3. Tomato -2
  4. Green Chilly-1
  5. Ginger-garlic Paste-1 tbsp
  6. Almond Paste(u can use cashewnut paste also)-2 tbsp
  7. Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  8. Red Chilly Powder-1tbsp
  9. Coriander powder-1/2 tsp
  10. Kasoori Methi(Dry fenugreek Leaves) powder-1tbsp
  11. Garam Masala-1/4 tsp
  12. Coriander leaves
  13. Butter-3tbsp
  14. Salt
  15. Fresh Cream-1 tbsp
  1. Saute onions,green chilly in little butter till light brown colourand let it cool .Grind it to a thick paste.
  2. Make tomato puree by boiling tomatoes in water for 10 mins.remove from water and dip it in cold water to remove the outer skin.Blend in a mixer till smooth.Strain to remove seeds.
  3. Fry paneer cubes till light brown on all sides and soak the cubes in warm water to make it soft.
  4. soak about 5-6 nos almonds in water for about 30 mins and grind it to a fine paste adding 1/4 cup of water.
  5. Heat butter in a kadai and add the onion paste and saute till brown in color.Then add ginger-garlic paste and saute for 2-3 mins.
  6. Add almond paste,tomato puree turmeric powder,red chilly powder,coriander powder, garam masala powder,kasoori methi powder ,salt and mix well and cook for 4 mins.
  7. Add Paneer cubes with little water and cook on medium heat for 5 mins.Garnish with coriander leaves and Fresh cream.
  8. Serve with chapattis or Naan.
