Soya Chunks Roast/Meal Maker Roast

Soya chunks or soy meat is a good source of protein and it is a good alternative for those who don’t eat meat.It tastes and looks like meat.This spicy soy chunks roast  goes well with rice.

Ingredients

  1. Soy chunks – 250 gms
  2. Onion(big,chopped) – 2
  3. Ginger paste – 1 tbsp
  4. Garlic paste- 1 tbsp
  5. Tomato(finely chopped) – 1
  6. Mustard seeds- 1tsp
  7. Curry leaves – 2-3 sprigs
  8. Dry red chilly –2
  9. Coconut bits(thengakothu) – 2 tbsp
  10. Fennel seeds powder – 1/2 tsp
  11. Salt
  12. Oil

For Roasting

  1. Grated Coconut –3/4 cup
  2. Dry Red Chilly – 6
  3. Garlic – 2
  4. Cloves – 4
  5. Cinnamon stick – 1”inch piece
  6. Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
  7. Peppercorns – 1 tsp
  8. Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  9. Turmeric powder – 1tsp
  10. Kashmiri red chilly powder – 1tbsp

preparation

  1. Boil water in  a pan and add soy chunks to it. Let it boil for 5 minutes.Remove from Fire.Drain the excess water and let it cool for sometime. Then squeeze out the extra water out of it.
  2. Heat little oil in a pan and roast the ingredients listed above.roast coconut till brown in color..Add the spice powders only after removing from fire, otherwise it will get burned.Once it is cool, grind it into a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.Add mustard seeds and let it splutter.Add dry red chilly,curry leaves and coconut bits to it and saute it.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste,chopped onions and chopped tomato.Once it is done,add the coconut paste to it.
  5. Add boiled soy chunks to it and mix well.Cover and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes.
  6. Open the lid and add fennel seeds powder to it.Stir well and Continue to cook on low flame for 30-40 minutes till chunks are dry.Stir in between.
  7. Serve with rice or chappathi.
