Cabbage Thoran


  1. One small or medium size Cabbage, shredded into small pieces
  2. Grated coconut – 1/2 cup
  3. Shallots – 5 to 6
  4. Green chilly – 3 to 4
  5. Curry leaves
  6. Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  7. Urad Dal – 1/4 tsp
  8. Coconut oil
  9. Salt to taste


  1. Grind coconut,green chilly,shallot ,curry leaves to a coarse paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pan.Splutter mustard seeds,urad dal ,curry leaves and add cabbage,salt.stir well and cover with a lid and cook . There is no need to add water while cooking cabbage.
  3. once the cabbage is cooked well, add the coconut mix to it and stir for another 2-3 mins till dry.
  4. Serve with rice and sambhar.
