Pavakka/Kaipakka Varuthathu (Bitter gourd fry)


  1. Bitter gourd /Kaipakka(cut into round pieces) – 4
  2. Onion (chopped) – 2
  3. Red chilly powder – 1 tbsp
  4. Pepper powder – 1 tsp
  5. Turmeric powder – 1tsp
  6. Salt
  7. Oil
  8. Green Chilly – 2
  9. Curry leaves



  1. Marinate bitter gourd with chilly powder, pepper powder,turmeric and salt. Keep aside for 1 hr.
  2. Deep fry in oil and transfer it to a serving bowl.
  3. Fry chopped onions in the remaining oil till golden brown in color and mix with bitter gourd pieces.
  4. Garnish with fried curry leaves and green chilly.
  5. Serve with rice or porridge.
