Prawn Ularthiyathu (കൊഞ്ച് ഉലര്ത്തിയത്)

This  is a typical Kerala dish prepared with prawns.This goes well with rice as side dish.

Prawn ularthiyathu

Ingredients:

  1. Prawn – 10
  2. Garlic (chopped,length wise ) – 6
  3. Ginger(chopped,lengthwise)  – 1” piece
  4. Onion (chopped) – 2
  5. Tomato (chopped) – 1
  6. Green Chilly (cut length wise) -2
  7. Kashmiri Red Chilly powder – 1 tbsp
  8. Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  9. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  10. Fennel seeds(powdered) –1 tsp
  11. Garam Masala – 1 tsp
  12. Curry leaves(stems discarded)  – 2 stalks
  13. Coconut Oil
  14. Salt

Preparation:

  1. Shell and devein prawns.Rinse and drain.
  2. Heat coconut oil in a pan.Saute chopped ginger,garlic,curry leaves and green chilly.once it is done, add chopped onions and fry till light brown.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, red chilly powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder.fennel seeds powder,and saute well.
  4. Once the raw smell goes , add prawns,garam masala powder  and salt. Stir well until prawn gets evenly coated with the masala.
  5. Cover and cook till prawns are done.
  6. Don’t over cook prawns as they tend to become hard  on overcooking.
  7. Serve with Rice.
