Crispy Lotus Stem

Lotus stem is quite popular in Asian cuisine. I got this recipe from NDTV good times show called “world kitchen” and this dish is prepared using lotus stem fried and sauteed in  honey and chilli sauce. lotus stem has lot of health benefits and it  is rich in iron, calcium and fiber.it  tastes like plantain and it is available in Asian grocery stores.

Ingredients

  1. Lotus stem(cut  into thin slices) – 200 gms
  2. Corn flour – 2 tsp
  3. Dry Red chilly –2
  4. garlic(chopped) – 1/2 tsp
  5. Chilly Paste- 1 tsp
  6. Honey –1 tsp
  7. Tomato Ketchup –2 tsp
  8. Soy Sauce-1/4 tsp
  9. Salt –1/4 tsp
  10. water –3 tbsp
  11. Oil
  12. Spring onion-to garnish
  13. sesame seeds – to garnish

Preparation

  1. peel off the skin of lotus stem. cut into thin slices and soak them in a bowl of water for 20 minutes  to remove mud .wash and clean it thoroughly.
  2. In a bowl,add corn flour and lotus stem pieces. mix well to get coated with corn flour.
  3. Deep fry in oil till golden brown in color on medium flame.
  4. Heat oil in another pan.Add red chilly,chopped garlic and saute well.
  5. Add chilly paste,honey,tomato ketch up,soy sauce and salt.
  6. Add water to it and stir well.
  7. Add fried lotus stem to it and mix well.
  8. Remove from fire.
  9. I garnished with spring onions only as sesame seeds was not there in my pantryWinking smile.
