Happy Vishu
Hi friends,
Today is vishu in Kerala and i wish you all a happy and prosperous vishu
Vishu Kani
Vishukani, is an assortment of auspicious things that is viewed when one opens one’s eyes on the day of Vishu. ‘Kani’ means ‘that which is seen first.’ And Vishukani is that which is seen first on Vishu,. We had vishukani at 3.30 a.m.and this is our first vishu at our new home.
kanikonna (yellow flower )is a must in vishukani. When we went to little india yesterday to buy konna it was all over already .so bought some yellow flowers and made a garland for krishna.:)
The Vishukani is arranged on the previous night. Usually the eldest female member in the family arranges the kani.. She wakes up early morning and lights the lamp (between 3 am and 4 am). She then closes the eyes of each person in the family and guides each person to see the Vishukani.
After the Vishukani, the eldest member in the family distributes the Vishukaineetam (a gold coin or 1 rupee coin)there is a belief that vishukaineetam ensures prosperity to children.so i still remember during my vishu days,me and my cousins used to to wake up early morning to receive the kaineetam from grandparents and uncles. This time i got vishukaineetam from my dear hubby.:)
