Rajma Masala (Red Kidney Beans Curry)


  1. Rajma(kidney beans) –  1 cup
  2. Onion –  2
  3. Tomato(medium) –  2
  4. Carrot (medium) –  2
  5. Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  6. Capsicum –  1
  7. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  8. Red chilly powder –  1 tsp
  9. Garam Masala powder – 1 tsp
  10. Coriander powder –  1/2 tsp
  11. Curry leaves
  12. Oil
  13. Salt


  1. Soak rajma overnight and pressure cook till soft.
  2. Blanch tomato and carrot and grind it to  make a paste.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Saute  ginger garlic paste, chopped onion,chopped capsicum and curry leaves.
  4. Add tomato-carrot paste to it and mix well. Add all masala powders,salt and water .
  5. Once it starts boiling,  add boiled rajma to it and mix. cover and cook for 2-3 mins.
  6. Serve with rice or roti.

    gravy was thick and nice but guess the tomato’s left a soury taste to the gravy. how do you rectify that?

    Thanks for trying out my recipe. If you find the gravy too soury, you just add little sugar to it to adjust the taste.
